Ambassador Dennis Ross Event and Book Signing
On February 9, 2016 the JCRC welcomed Ambassador Dennis Ross to discuss his recent book, Doomed to Succeed: The U.S.-Israel Relationship from Truman to Obama. We were joined by more than 225 community members at Congregation B'nai Tzedek. Ambassador Ross engaged the audience with stories from his book, chatted about his experiences serving in different administrations, discussed the future of U.S.-Israel relations, and signed books.
Ambassador Ross said:
"I'm optimistic about the relationship (between Israel and America) because the regional conflict is about identity and who is going to define it; there is only one state in the region with a set of institutions, rule of law, independent judiciary, free and fair elections, rights for gays, and rights for women, and that country is Israel. Israel's problems are real, but it has the institutions and means to cope with its problems in a way no other country in the region can."
"There is an international consensus that favors two states and nobody knows that BDS is against two-states. BDS is about Israel not existing it is against two states. You want to opposed BDS, you want to challenge BDS, you've got to delegitimize BDS instead of having the de-legitimizers dominate the political discourse. We need to de-legitimize the de-legitimizers."
"There may be other countries in the region with which we share interests, but Israel is the only country in the Middle East with which we share values."
